HOME ASSISTANT SPECIALISTS

# Home Assistant.
Built around your home.

Bring lighting, blinds, heating and energy information into a more joined-up home. We help you plan Home Assistant around the way you live, with compatible equipment, dependable connections and a clear plan for handover and support.

Someone on your team, looking ahead.

Technology moves quickly. We keep your build up to speed.

[Decisions early. Options later.](https://ontheteam.co.uk/before-first-fix-review/)

01 / THE LONGER VIEW

## Useful automation.
A home you understand.

Home Assistant can bring supported devices and services together, but the platform is only part of the picture. For a new build or major renovation, we translate your routines into a practical brief for the architect, builder and specialist installers: what should happen, what infrastructure it needs and who will look after it.

We help you decide what needs attention now, what deserves provision and what can sensibly wait.

A DECISION WORTH MAKING EARLY

> What should still work when the internet goes down?

Prefer local control where the selected devices support it. Check each integration and its dependencies, and agree straightforward manual controls for everyday essentials. Remote access and cloud-dependent features need their own connection.

A TIP FROM LEE

## Plan for life after setup

> “Our Home Assistant work spans energy, hot water, lighting, room readings and household controls. I would help you define the routines, supported integrations, manual controls and handover you need before choosing how to build it.”

Lee / On The Team

02 / QUESTIONS THAT SHAPE THE PLAN

## Ask it now.
Allow for it early.

1. Which routines would make daily life easier, and how will you override them?

2. Which exact devices support local integration, and what depends on a cloud service?

3. Where will the controller, network equipment, sensors and power supplies live?

4. Who will own the accounts, backups, updates and support after handover?

A CONNECTED DECISION

### See what a joined-up home could feel like

Try room controls, scenes and energy views in our simulated townhouse. It is an illustrative website demo; Home Assistant is not connected or embedded.

03 / MAKE ROOM FOR WHAT’S NEXT

## Plan the foundations.
Keep useful options open.

Early planning does not mean buying
everything today. It means understanding
what later choices depend on.

01 / DECIDE NOW

### Describe the behaviour before choosing devices.

Agree lighting scenes, blind routines, useful alerts and energy priorities. Check the exact device models and supported integrations before committing to equipment.

02 / PREPARE NOW

### Give the system dependable foundations.

Coordinate network points, power, sensor locations and accessible equipment space with the appointed trades. Include manual controls and a commissioning checklist in the brief.

03 / PLAN ONGOING CARE

### Make recovery and maintenance part of handover.

Specify regular backups, a known-working handover copy and secure storage of the matching encryption key outside the system. Agree a restore check, reviewed updates and named support responsibilities.

04 / SOMETHING YOUR TEAM CAN USE

## From possibilities
to a practical brief.

We agree the scope against your project, its stage and the information available.

- A Home Assistant brief covering routines, dashboards and manual controls
- A record of device compatibility, local control and cloud dependencies
- Coordinated controller, network, power and sensor requirements
- A commissioning and handover checklist, including accounts and recovery
- An agreed scope for remote access, maintenance and any ongoing support

We advise, plan and coordinate. Appointed specialists carry out detailed engineering design, installation and certification.

BEFORE WE START

## A few good questions.

### Can you help with an existing Home Assistant setup?

Tell us what is installed, what works and what you want to change. We can agree a review scope around the information available, existing integrations and access. The next steps depend on the condition and supportability of the setup.

### Can Home Assistant work without the internet?

Home Assistant runs on hardware in your home and can communicate locally with supported devices. Cloud-dependent devices, services and remote access still need internet connectivity. We help identify those dependencies rather than promising everything will work offline.

### How would remote support work?

Home Assistant Cloud from Nabu Casa is an option for remote access without router port forwarding. Agree individual accounts, multi-factor authentication, permissions and how access is withdrawn. Any ongoing support, subscription costs, response times and on-site fallback should be agreed separately.

### Should we avoid updates once everything works?

A working setup still needs maintenance and security updates. Agree a process to review release notes, take a backup, schedule the change and check important routines afterwards, with a recovery plan if something goes wrong.

### Will every smart device work with Home Assistant?

No. Compatibility depends on the exact model, firmware and integration, and can change. Check the functions you need before buying. We are independent advisers; this service does not imply affiliation with or endorsement by Home Assistant or Nabu Casa.

### Does the dashboard demo show a real installation?

No. It is an interactive simulation using illustrative readings, scenes and security states. It does not run Home Assistant or connect to real equipment.

THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE DECISIONS

## Worth thinking
